RECORD EXCHANGE (IN)SIDEWALK SALE DAY 2: BUSKIN’ IT IN THE SUNSHINE

Day 2 of The Record Exchange annual Sidewalk Sale has arrived, and so has the sunshine — but we’re still playing it safe and keeping everything indoors, as the forecast is calling for more rain later in the day. Maybe we’ll end up outside, maybe we won’t, but in either case, from now through Sunday you can enjoy 20% off the entire store!

On the “sidewalk” — the symbolic sidewalk, for now — you’ll find scores of savings and deep discounts, everything from 50-cent vinyl LPs and $1 CDs to Gift Shop clearance closeouts like collectible toys, cards, books, magazines, jewelry, stickers and $5.99 rock tees! That’s in addition to the 20% storewide sale. Proper.

Out on the “real” sidewalk, it’s First Saturday at The Record Exchange, and the Go Listen Boise buskers are filling the air with the sounds of local music badassitude. We still have a couple of hour slots open this afternoon, so if you’re musically inclined and want to get in on the busking action, come on down and sign up!

YEAH, IT’S RAINING, BUT THE SIDEWALK SALE IS STILL ON – INSIDE THE STORE

The Record Exchange annual Sidewalk Sale is on — inside the store.

We’re not letting the rain, well, rain on our parade, so we’ve set up inside until the sunshine comes out later this weekend. Inside or out, from now through Sunday you can enjoy 20% off the entire store.

Proper.

Saturday, June 5, is also First Saturday at The Record Exchange, which means Go Listen Boise will be hosting a full schedule of talented local musicians busking on the RX sidewalk. For more info, including musician signups if you want to get involved, click HERE.

BUSKIN’ A MOVE AT RECORD EXCHANGE

It’s a little chilly for the first First Saturday at The Record Exchange, but that hasn’t stopped local musicians from filling the downtown air with sweet sounds. Picture above are Ali and Travis Ward, Ryan Peck and some people behind them talking, holding a newspaper and scratching a neck.

Each Saturday through the fall, Go Listen Boise and The Record Exchange will bring you a full day of busking outside the store on the corner of 11th and Idaho streets. We still have a couple of spots open today if you want to come down and busk, or if you just want to come listen, that’s cool, too. Click HERE for more info.

RECORD STORE DAY: A THANK YOU FROM THE RECORD EXCHANGE AND THE LIST OF REMAINING EXCLUSIVE RELEASES

As we continue to nurse our holiday hangover, The Record Exchange would like to send out a big THANK YOU to everyone who helped make Saturday, April 17, 2010 the best Record Store Day ever!

From the time we opened our doors in the morning for the vinyl junkies to gobble up RSD exclusives, to 12:30 a.m. when Josh Ritter finished his four-hour marathon autograph session, the store was buzzing with musical excitement.

Whether you came for Everest‘s face-melting afternoon concert (the biggest stage setup EVER for an RX in-store), Ritter‘s intimate evening performance, the local sidewalk buskers, the 150+ exclusive releases, or all of it, The Record Exchange wants you to know that we deeply appreciate your support of the nation’s 15th best independent record store on our biggest day of the year. Check back over the next few days for photos and other RSD 2010 fun!

BUSK A MOVE AND SING ALONG WITH THE RECORD STORE DAY BUSKERS!

As part of the Record Store Day fun on Saturday, local musicians will be busking outside The Record Exchange from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The schedule is as follows:

10 a.m. Jeff Cochran
11 a.m. Mel Wade; Willison, Roos and Young
Noon Dan Costello; Tuck Nelson
1 p.m. Fauxbois; Poke
2 p.m. Acousticats; Kayleigh Jack
3 p.m. Curtis Stigers; Matt Hopper
4 p.m aka Belle; Hokum Hi-Flyers
5 p.m. Hillfolk Noir; Boise Rock School
6 p.m. Jonathan Warren; Bernie Reilly

Record Exchange staffer Catherine and her band aka Belle are inviting the public to join them at 4 p.m. for a big old fashioned singalong during their busking slot. This spontaneous street choir will be filled with singers and non-singers alike — it doesn’t matter, as long as you have a voice and you aren’t afraid to use it! They don’t care which part you learn, just come join the band and help them create a singing mob on the streets of Boise!

If you want to hear the song, visit the aka Belle MySpace page, email the band and they’ll send you an MP3. Here are the lyrics and singing parts:

Catherine/girls: On the wall (x4)
There hangs (x4)
In a frame (x4)
A red wave
In blood (x4)
He wrote my name

Everyone all together: Painted Faded and Tainted gifts he gave

Catherine/girls: Stolen nails (x4)
And old wires (x4)
Wound and laid (x4)
Side by side
There’s a cloud, there’s a hill, there’s a sun
There’s a love of some kind

All together: Painted Faded and Tainted gifts he gave

YODEL!

Sam/boys: Well, we never parted very far

Catherine/girls: But you’re never home … that’s how it goes

Sam/boys: Well, you’ve got reminders on your wall

Catherine/girls: Of something I could never own

All together: And my heart’s still sore

All together: On the wall (x4)
There hangs (x4)
In a frame (x4)
A red wave
In blood (x4)
He wrote my name

Painted Faded and Tainted gifts he gave

repeat, faster, to the end
