A ‘CLASSIC’ RECORD STORE DAY EXPERIENCE ON JULY 17

For the second RSD Drop on July 17, we’re kickin’ it old school RSD style.

In lieu of the time blocks we’ve used for the previous Drops, we’re going back to a traditional Record Store Day line for July 17. That means you won’t have to sign up for a lotto and get assigned a time to shop – you can simply show up and line up whenever you want, at any time, in front of our Idaho Street entrance.

We will still monitor and limit capacity; if you’ve attended a pre-pandemic Record Store Day or Black Friday event at The Record Exchange, you know we were already doing this anyway. So it won’t be a free-for-all, but it will feel a lot freer for all of us.

In addition to the Record Store Day exclusives, we are having a blowout sidewalk sale on July 17 featuring 6,000 $1 vinyl records. This is inventory from our warehouse that has never been in the store, and it’s yours for the taking at a buck a record until it’s gone.

Anyone who makes a purchase at The Record Exchange during the Drop can take their receipt down the street to our friends at Woodland Empire Ale Craft and enjoy $1 off pints on the 17th!

We’ll be open 8am to 8pm, and we look forward to seeing your entire face.

If you haven’t previewed the list of exclusives, scroll down for the full list. Looking for detailed descriptions and photos of the releases? Head over to recordstoreday.com.

The standard Record Store Day rule set applies to the RSD Drops days – one copy per title per customer, no preorders/holds, no returns. The only difference is, phone orders* for curbside/in-store pickup will be available at noon for anyone who does not want to shop in person.

*Local customers only; you must be able to pick up your order at the store.

TIME SLOT LOTTO FOR RECORD STORE DAY RSD DROPS 10/24 IS LIVE!

The third RSD Drops release date is Saturday, Oct. 24, and shopping for the exclusives is going to look a lot different than it does on a typical Record Store Day at The Record Exchange.

For public health reasons, letting people line up in the wee hours of the morning simply isn’t an option this year. In the absence of a first-come-first-served line, we will be letting customers into the store 20 people at a time in predetermined time blocks beginning at 8am on the 24th. Customers will have 15 minutes to shop for exclusives, which will be arranged in the store alphabetically. Record Exchange staffers will be on hand to help you find what you’re looking for.

You can enter our free time slot lotto by filling out this form or visiting the store to fill out a form in person. If you want to shop for exclusives first thing in the morning, this is the only way to do it, as we won’t be allowing a line to form like it does on Record Store Day, and the store will be closed to the general public until everyone who enters the lotto is accommodated. If you do not enter the lotto, you will not be assigned a time slot and you’ll have to wait until we open the store to the general public later in the morning.

DEADLINE TO ENTER THE LOTTO IS MIDNIGHT SUNDAY, OCTOBER 18.

HOW IT WORKS:

– There are 20 customer slots per 15-minute time block. Beginning at 8am on the 24th, customers will have 15 minutes to shop for RSD exclusives until we have accommodated everyone who enters the lotto. We will sanitize the store in between each time block.

– We will randomly draw names and assign time slots in the order names are drawn. For instance, the first 20 people drawn will be assigned to Time Block A, the next 20 people drawn will be assigned to Time Block B and so on.

– Customers will be notified of their time slot no later than Tuesday, Oct 20. You will have 24 hours from the time you are notified of your slot to accept it.

– Customers will be asked to arrive NO SOONER than 10 minutes before their time slot on the 24th; anyone arriving earlier than that will be asked to leave and return later – again, there will be no traditional Record Store Day line forming before we open the store. If you’re more than 10 minutes late for your scheduled time, you will lose your slot. The clock starts ticking on your time slot regardless of when you show up, so if you’re 10 minutes late for instance, you’ll only have 5 minutes to shop.

– The standard Record Store Day rule set applies to the RSD Drops days – one copy per title per customer, no preorders/holds, no returns. The only difference is, local phone orders for curbside pickup will be available at noon for anyone who does not want to shop in person.

– Masks, social distancing and all other pandemic shopping policies will be in place. Anyone who violates our policies will be subject to removal.

THE FINE PRINT:

– Anyone 13 or older who wants a time slot must submit a lotto entry.

– One entry per person. Duplicate entries will be discarded.

– Your time slot is for you and you alone – individual shoppers only. Your time slot does not entitle you to bring a spouse/partner, friend or your entire extended family. The only exception is we are allowing one child (12 or younger) per customer with prior written permission; said child must remain with you at all times.

– Time slots are non-transferable. You cannot give it to a spouse, spawn, sibling, stranger or anyone else, nor can you sell or auction your slot. No exceptions.

– If you cannot make your assigned time slot, we will assign it to someone else and you will be reassigned to the final time block of the day.

RECORD STORE DAY RSD DROPS PT. 2 SEPT. 26: 100 EXCLUSIVE RELEASES, EXTENDED HOURS AND 20% OFF RECORD EXCHANGE GIFT SHOP ITEMS!

The second RSD Drops release date is Saturday! With 100 Record Store Day exclusives available, we’re looking forward to another fun day and hope you are, too.

To make it even more fun for Part 2, we’re extending our hours to 8pm and offering 20% off gift shop items all day long! That sale is good on most non-music/video items in the store, including T-shirts, socks, jewelry, candles, hats, books, etc. (exclusions are recorded music, video, turntables and stereo equipment, consignment items, food/beverage, tickets and sale/clearance items).

Because shopping for the exclusives is going to look a lot different than it does on a typical Record Store Day at The Record Exchange, we wanted to give you an idea of what to expect:

We will be open to the general public from 10:30am to 8pm. From 8am to 10:30am, we have scheduled predetermined time blocks limited to 15 customers to provide safe, socially-distanced shopping. Those time blocks have already been filled; if you don’t have a time block, you’ll be able to shop beginning at 10:30am.

-If you have a time slot, we ask that you arrive NO SOONER than 10 minutes before your scheduled time; anyone arriving earlier than that will be asked to leave and return later (there will be no traditional Record Store Day line forming before we open the store). If you’re more than 10 minutes late for your scheduled time, you will lose your slot.

-Your time slot is for you and you alone – individual shoppers only. Your time slot does not entitle you to bring a spouse/partner, friend or your entire extended family. The only exception is we are allowing one child (12 or younger) per customer WITH PRIOR WRITTEN PERMISSION; said child must remain with you at all times. Time slots are non-transferable. You cannot give yours to a spouse, spawn, sibling, stranger or anyone else, nor can you sell or auction your slot. No exceptions.

-When you arrive, you will be greeted at our Idaho Street entrance by a member of our door crew, who will show you where to queue until it’s time to enter the store. Our waiting areas on the sidewalk will be clearly marked with socially-distanced spots for customers to stand 6 feet apart. Masks, hand sanitizer (provided) and all other pandemic shopping policies will be in place. Anyone who violates our policies will be subject to removal.

-Once you’re inside, you’ll have 15 minutes to shop for exclusives, which will be arranged alphabetically – you’ll literally walk by every exclusive A-Z. Record Exchange staffers will be on hand to assist you as needed. The clock starts ticking on your time slot regardless of when you show up, so if you’re 5 minutes late for instance, you’ll only have 10 minutes to shop. We will sanitize the store in between each time block.

-The standard Record Store Day rule set applies to the RSD Drops days – one copy per title per customer, no preorders/holds, no returns. The only difference is, phone orders* for curbside/in-store pickup will be available at noon for anyone who does not want to shop in person. *Local customers only; you must be able to pick up your order at the store.

-Following the last time block, we will resume walk-up “business as usual” entry at 10:30am, with our capacity limit reverting back to 20 customers at a time. Questions? Contact us. Looking forward to seeing you Saturday!
