TITLE:
Pauly
MATERIALS:
Black Sharpie with an acrylic clear coat
ARTIST STATEMENT:
Ever since I was a small child, I always enjoyed drawing alien creatures. My inspiration for Pauly was a drawing that I did in math class, so I thought it was a good idea to make it bigger and three dimensional. The pattern on the back is based on my friend’s arm. The image on the hat is a drawing I did in McCall while listening to my brother’s hip-hop.

TITLE:
Solis Trismosin (drawn from 16th century alchemy painter’s names)
MATERIALS:
Acrylic paint
ARTIST STATEMENT:
Solis Trismosin is the third sibling I’ve created for The Record Exchange. All three have tattoos drawn from 16th century alchemy paintings that represent transformation of various kinds. Solis is an adolescent male whose lower body is grounded in the landscape. His body rises metaphorically into the sky and he’s crowned with a golden sun on top of his head. Various symbols representing love, growth, flight, time, death, male and female and other universal life images cover his skin. This one-eyed “monster” is living in the dream time.
