MUNNY SPOTLIGHT: KAREN BUBB

Leading up to our final day of bidding on Oct. 29, The Record Exchange is showcasing the artists who donated their talents to the fifth annual Munny Silent Auction Fundraiser. Featured in this post is Karen Bubb.

TITLE:
Solis Trismosin (drawn from 16th century alchemy painter’s names)
MATERIALS:
Acrylic paint
ARTIST STATEMENT:
Solis TrismosinĀ is the third sibling I’ve created for The Record Exchange. All three have tattoos drawn from 16th century alchemy paintings that represent transformation of various kinds. Solis is an adolescent male whose lower body is grounded in the landscape. His body rises metaphorically into the sky and he’s crowned with a golden sun on top of his head. Various symbols representing love, growth, flight, time, death, male and female and other universal life images cover his skin. This one-eyed “monster” is living in the dream time.
