THE VINYL WORD: THE BEATLES REMASTERED VINYL ARE FINALLY HERE!

PREVIEW/BUY THE ALBUMS HERE

Twist and shout, shout, shout: The Beatles are at long last getting the treatment they’ve always deserved on vinyl. The most anticipated catalog reissues in music history have arrived and feature the pristine remastering that fans have craved for decades. Your wishes have come true: Every Beatles album. Every official Beatles song. Faithfully reproduced album jackets. Available individually or in a glorious box set.

Proper care and a painstaking series of steps were taken to ensure that music lovers would hear the Fab Four in all their glory. With EMI’s legendary Abbey Road Studios providing the backdrop, the four-year restoration process combined veteran expertise, state-of-the-art equipment, vintage studio gear, and rigorous testing to net what is without doubt the highest fidelity possible and authentic, jaw-dropping sound guaranteed to rival the original LPs.

At the start of the restoration process, engineers conducted extensive tests before copying the analog master tapes into the digital realm using 24-bit/192 kHz resolution and a Prism A-D converter. Dust build-ups were removed from tape machine heads after the completion of each title. Artifacts such as electrical clicks, microphone vocal pops, excessive sibilance, and poor edits were improved upon as long as it was determined that doing so didn’t at all damage the integrity of the songs. Similarly, de-noising technology was applied in only a few necessary spots and on a sum total of less than five of the entire 525 minutes of Beatles music. Compression was also used sparingly and only on the stereo versions to preserve the sanctity of the dynamics.

A rigorous string of checks and balances ensured that the results exceeded expectations. Subject to numerous playback tests, songs were auditioned by the remastering team to determine if any lingering mistakes needed correction. The restored versions were also compared side-by-side against the original vinyl pressings (loaded into Pro Tools), and then again auditioned in the same studio where all recent Beatles projects, including Love, were mixed. Once all EQ issues had been addressed, another round of listening litmus tests occurred in still another location. Finalization required the approval of everyone involved in the remastering process. For this project, there was no such thing as too many cooks in the kitchen. Yes, it took a village to get it right.

Each album features original U.K. vinyl album artwork, original U.K. track listings, expanded booklets containing original and newly penned liner notes, recording notes, rare photos, and fold-out packaging.

NED EVETT 'TREEHOUSE' RELEASE PARTY PREVIEW IN-STORE NOV. 15

Boise Weekly and The Record Exchange present the Ned Evett Treehouse Release Party preview in-store live at The Record Exchange (1105 W. Idaho St., Downtown Boise) at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15. As always, this Record Exchange in-store performance is free and all ages. Evett’s official release party will be held on Friday, Nov. 16, at the Linen Building and we have tickets for sale at the store!

ABOUT NED EVETT AND ‘TREEHOUSE’

After two years in the Nashville music scene, fretless guitarist Ned Evett marks his return to Boise with a release party for his new album Treehouse.

Treehouse is the result of a remarkable collaboration of well-known music industry talent. The album was produced and recorded in the studio of Adrian Belew, the guitarist, songwriter, and record producer who has played with David Bowie, the Talking Heads, Nine Inch Nails, Frank Zappa, Paul Simon, and other famed acts. Evett met Belew in Milan, Italy, in 2010 while both were on tour with Joe Satriani.

“Adrian is one of my all-time heroes,” Evett said. “I was thrilled when he invited me to Nashville to record this album. He didn’t allow me to second guess myself.”

Evett is backed on the record by Lynn Williams on drums, Malcom Bruce-the son of Jack Bruce from Cream-on bass, Ed Roth on keyboard, and Belew on guitar. Ryan Hewitt mixed the album, directly after working on the latest Avett Brothers production. He also mixed Evett’s previous release, Afraid4U.

“This album is about love lost and redemption,” Evett notes. “It’s more singer-songwriter than fretless guitar gunslinger, but the gunslinger is still there.”

Taking special note of the title track “Treehouse” and “Mars River Delta 2128,” the album has received note-worthy four- and five-star reviews from magazines including No Depression, Guitar Player, Maverick, Premier Guitar, Guitar World, and more. Evett launched the album this summer with a two-month release tour of England.

“Treehouse opened a floodgate of new writing for me,” Ned said. “I’m excited to share be able to share this work with my hometown.”

CIMS HANDPICKED: CUSSES' BUZZED ABOUT, BLISTERING SELF-TITLED DEBUT

PREVIEW/BUY THE CD HERE

Cusses aren’t easy to define. However, whether their guitar driven, fuzzed out brand of music reminds you of The Runaways meets The Ramones or Siouxsie and the Banshees meets Jet, or even Pat Benatar with some heavy handed riot grrrl sass, it is impossible to come away with any other conclusion than this: Cusses are bringing back real, effortless, speaker-blasting rock & roll. A band that would be right at home taking center stage at CBGB. Lead singer Angel Bond was introduced to drummer Brian Lackey through mutual friends, and they have not separated since. The two headed to Savannah, Georgia, in 2009, and met up with Brian’s long time friend, guitarist and past bandmate Bryan Harder (they opened for post-hardcore legends Fugazi in their last band together). The three formed Cusses that summer and played their first show in February 2010. And now their debut album Cusses is finally here.

CIMS HANDPICKED: SUPERGROUP BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION'S 'AFTERGLOW'

PREVIEW/BUY THE VINYL HERE

Black Country Communion is a head-on collision between American and British rock influences — a true supergroup that delivers a titanic rock experience. The seed for Black Country Communion was planted when legendary frontman and bass guitarist Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Trapeze) and master blues-rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa combined forces on stage in Los Angeles in 2009. The brainchild of producer Kevin Shirley (Black Crowes, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin), the band added to its rock lineage with powerhouse drummer Jason Bonham (Led Zeppelin) and keyboardist Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater, Billy Idol, Alice Cooper). BCC’s latest album, Afterglow, has a slightly different genesis than the two albums that preceded it. “There were six months to write this album, and I’m really excited by the way it came out,” comments Hughes, the man responsible for the bulk of its contents. “I wanted to make a record that stood up to the first two, but not to repeat either of those records. I wanted this album to have more acoustic moments than the previous two. I wanted to hear more of Derek and I wanted the more angelic voice of Glenn as well as the more aggressive one … Above all, I wanted more drama.”
