RADIO BOISE T-SHIRT DESIGN CONTEST: ENTER DESIGN, VOTE ON WINNER AT RX!

Radio Boise – KRBX 89.9 FM – invites artists of all skill levels to enter a T-Shirt Design Contest to celebrate the new presence of noncommercial, community-programmed radio in the Treasure Valley. As a listener-supported station, Radio Boise is eager for the community to create an iconic and adventurous image for its next T-shirt print run. Artwork should emphasize themes of localism, independence and Radio Boise’s focus on community service and musical diversity.

Five designs will be chosen for the public to vote on at locations that will rotate each week during the month of August. The designs will be available for viewing at The Record Exchange beginning First Thursday, Aug. 4 and continuing through Wednesday, Aug. 10.

The artist of the winning entry will receive prizes from local businesses and the satisfaction of seeing his or her design appear on hundreds of fellow community-radio supporters across the Treasure Valley! There is no cost to enter. Artwork must be received by noon Wednesday, Aug. 3. Complete rules and information about how to submit materials can be found at radioboise.org.

Radio Boise launched its FM broadcast on 89.9 FM in April and began serving an area of one-half million people that was the largest population in the country that had been without community radio. Radio Boise aims to have a daily impact in the Treasure Valley by creating and encouraging opportunities for the community to access local media — something as indispensable as a city park, a library or a firehouse. Radio Boise provides a clearinghouse for the distribution of event notices and other information impacting the community. Local nonprofit organizations and government agencies are invited to use the broadcast for public service announcements and other notices about community activities and services. Radio Boise also serves as a performance platform for the creative skills of local musicians, verbal artists and youth.

Visit radioboise.org and therecordexchange.com/recordstoreday for full details.

ABOUT RECORD STORE DAY: The original idea for Record Store Day (recordstoreday.com) was conceived by Chris Brown, and was founded in 2007 by Eric Levin, Michael Kurtz, Carrie Colliton, Amy Dorfman, Don Van Cleave and Brian Poehner as a celebration of the unique culture surrounding over 700 independently owned record stores in the USA, and hundreds of similar stores internationally.

This is the one day that all of the independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day and hundreds of artists in the United States and in various countries across the globe make special appearances and performances. Festivities include performances, cookouts, body painting, meet and greets with artists, parades, DJs spinning records and on and on. Metallica officially kicked off Record Store Day at Rasputin Music in San Francisco on April 19, 2008 and Record Store Day is now celebrated the third Saturday of April.
