Congratulations to Michael Perez, winner of today’s Hawthorne Heights Twitter ticket giveaway!

The Hawthorne camp has been holding Twitter scavenger hunts in each town on their tour, stashing a pair of tickets at a select location for the first fan to claim. Michael was the first cat to strut in the door and snatch the tickets.

As for the rest of you, tickets to tonight’s Hawthorne Heights show at The Venue (7 p.m.) are still available at The Record Exchange. Not for free, mind you — we can’t all be Michael Perez, can we?

How I Got Over, which takes its name from Clara Ward’s gospel classic (made popular by Mahalia Jackson), is the Roots‘ first new release since joining Late Night with Jimmy Fallon for a full time gig as the show’s house band. Grammy Award winners the Roots characterize the songs on How I Got Over as “depicting the everyman’s search for hope in this dispiriting post-hope zeitgeist”. The lead single from the Roots new set is “Dear God 2.0.” The track re-imagines the Monsters of Folk song “Dear God” and features MOF members Yim Yames from My Morning Jacket, Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis from Bright Eyes and M. Ward.

No jumping through hoops or random drawings for this one — just send us an email and we’ll hook you up with a pair of tickets! (FYI, your name will be on the guest list at the door; you will not need to pick up tickets in advance.)

Good Old War (give ’em a listen HERE) just released a new self-titled album on June 1, and you can read a review from Absolute Punk HERE. They’re performing tonight at The Venue (7 p.m.) with Yukon Blonde, Audra Mae and Bank.
