VARIOUS ARTISTS – The Sopranos – Music From the HBO Series
Available on vinyl for the first time ever! Mastered for vinyl and lacquers created by Kevin Gray, pressed on 180 gram. Imagine an album that could contain tracks by Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Elvis Costello, as well as Frank Sinatra, Cream, and Van Morrison. That’s part of the lineup on this various-artists sampler of music used in the television series The Sopranos, music that dates from each of the last five decades of the 20th century, from Bo Diddley’s 1950s hit ”I’m a Man” to Eurythmics’ ”I’ve Tried Everything” from their 1999 reunion album, Peace. Familiar songs like Sinatra’s ”It Was a Very Good Year” are given a new flavor by being sequenced between very different yet oddly complementary songs. The most interesting moments, however, come with the less familiar material — cast member ”Little Steven” Van Zandt and the Disciples of Soul’s ”Inside of Me,” Elvis Costello & the Attractions’ live take on ”Complicated Shadows,” Wyclef Jean’s rap over Sly & the Family Stone’s ”Family Affair” on ”Blood Is Thicker Than Water,” which refers specifically to the mafia family story line of the show. The result sounds like an hour with the radio station of your dreams, which is what this kind of album aspires to be.

JOHNNY CASH – A Concert Behind The Prison Walls
A Concert: Behind the Prison Walls features Cash performing for inmates inside the Tennessee State Penitentiary in Nashville. Recorded in 1976, this is one of only two prison concerts Cash ever shot for broadcast and features legendary performers Johnny Cash, Linda Ronstadt and Roy Clark performing their greatest hits. The concert aired on national television, and this vinyl edition features rare, live performances of mega hits Folsom Prison Blues, Sunday Morning Coming Down, Boy Named Sue, Love Has No Pride, and more.

418456823458

TASTE – What’s Going On: Taste Live at the Isle of Wight
Originally formed in Cork, Ireland, in 1966 by Rory Gallagher, Taste had a brief but influential career, releasing two studio albums in 1969 and 1970 and disbanding shortly after their legendary appearance at the 1970 Isle Of Wight Festival, which is the centerpiece of this film. The core of “What’s Going On” is the band’s performance at the festival on August 28th but it is encapsulated by a documentary on the history and importance of Taste and setting the scene for their Isle Of Wight Festival appearance. This features contributions from Rory Gallagher’s brother Donal along with Brian May (Queen), The Edge (U2), Bob Geldof and renowned guitarist Larry Coryell. Rory Gallagher would go on to enjoy an acclaimed and highly successful solo career and this electrifying show by Taste is an early example of Rory’s justified reputation as the ultimate live performer.
