Thao and the Get Down Stay Down‘s new album A Man Alive will be available at The Record Exchange on CD and vinyl Friday, March 4!

A Man Alive is Thao & The Get Down Stay Down’s fourth album. It is another amazing sonic next step for the band following up on the success of We The Common (2013), which was largely inspired by Thao’s volunteer work with the California Coalition for Women’s Prisoners, A Man Alive is an evolution in both subject matter and sound.

Thao says: “I wanted A Man Alive to be beat- and bass-driven—rather than guitar-based – expanding upon the hip-hop influences of the previous record. A Man Alive is more instrumental, more riff- and loop-centric, and has more manipulated sounds.” The Get Down Stay Down are at their best on this record, and Thao herself experimented with programming beats for several tracks complementing the live drums played on every song.

Keep It Together, the third album in just over three years by Indianapolis-based sisters Lily and Madeleine, is a spellbinding ten-song statement, the dynamic product of two distinct musical personalities bound by kinship, melding seamlessly into one ephemeral and dreamy collection.

After releasing two critically acclaimed albums on Sufjan Stevens’ Asthmatic Kitty Records and selling out myriad shows both in the US and overseas, the imminent release of Keep It Together finds these young women of only 21 and 18 positioned to become a household name.

Roxy Music – Live 2LP

Originally released in 2003 on CD, this was Roxy Music’s reunion and world tour of their 30th anniversary of the band and represents the entire set list from those concerts. Limited edition nonmetallic gold colored vinyl.

Hawkwind – Space Ritual 180-gram 2LP

Recorded live in December 1972 and released the following year, Space Ritual is an excellent document of Hawkwind’s classic lineup, underscoring the group’s status as space rock pioneers. Incorporating most of Doremi Fasol Latido, the show for the Space Ritual tour was conceived as a space rock opera, its blend of sci-fi electronics, mesmerizing psy-fi grooves, and heavy, earthbound jamming punctuated with spoken word interludes from astral poet Bob Calvert. Although his intergalactic musings date the album, coming across now as camp futurism, they still provide fitting atmospheric preambles to Hawkwind’s astounding, mind-warping sounds.

Jethro Tull – Living in the Past 2LP

Living in the Past is a double album quasi-compilation collection by Jethro Tull, which contains album tracks, out-takes, the “Life Is a Long Song” EP, and all of their singles except for “Aeroplane”, “Sunshine Day”, “One for John Gee”, “17” and the original United Kingdom version of “Teacher” (the United States single version was included instead).

Morrissey – Bona Drag 2LP

Bona Drag is a compilation album by Morrissey originally released October 1990. The album features an array of Morrissey’s most popular songs from his early solo career, most of which had not been released on any previous album. The album name meaning nice outfit is an example of the subculture slang Polari explored further on the album’s first track “Piccadilly Palare”. Bona Drag will be available on 180gm 2-LP.
