VINYL TUESDAY: TEN BANDS ONE CAUSE PINK VINYL LISTENING PARTY, PLUS KAMASI WASHINGTON, MOTORHEAD, THUNDERBITCH AND MANY MORE!

Screen Shot 2015-09-27 at 10.47.21 PMIt’s Vinyl Tuesday! Record Exchange customers receive up to $5 in used vinyl* with every $25 in new vinyl purchased and have access to early and exclusive releases. This week’s releases:

TEN BANDS ONE CAUSE:

For the second year in a row, RED Distribution has teamed with an array of artists to offer limited-edition exclusive pink vinyl versions of new and recent albums for the Ten Bands One Cause fundraiser, and The Record Exchange is celebrating with a listening party on Tuesday, Sept. 29 (6pm)!

Join us to hear tracks from the albums and enjoy free Ten Bands One Cause cupcakes (pink cake, pink icing and chocolate drizzle) from New York City’s Baked By Melissa! We’ll also have silkscreened posters (pictured, right) to give out free with purchase of any of the titles.

Last year during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, RED along with its account, artist and label partners raised nearly $30,000 for Gilda’s Club NYC, an organization that provides community support for both those diagnosed with cancer and their caretakers. It is named after comedian Gilda Radner, who passed away from the disease at the age of 43 in 1989. In 2015, a new crop of artists and labels are coming to the table to grow this campaign — at least $1 from each album sold will go to Gilda’s Club NYC.

2015 Ten Bands One Cause titles:

Run The Jewels – Run the Jewels 2
Sturgill Simpson – Metamodern Sounds in Country Music
Joey Bada$$ – B4.DA.$$
Al Green – The Belle Album
Between The Buried & Me – Coma Ecliptic
Chet Faker – Built On Glass
Pierce The Veil – Collide With The Sky

OTHER NEW VINYL TUESDAY RELEASES:

KAMASI WASHINGTON – The Epic
“These young guys,” the rapper Common says, “remind me of why I love music.” And the story The Epic tells, without words but rather through some combination of magic, mastery and sheer force of imagination, is the story of Kamasi Washington and the Next Step and their collective mission: to remove jazz from the shelf of relics and make it new, unexpecte  and dangerous again. 3 x black 180g 12″ in artworked 3mm spined sleeves all housed in a rigid board outer slipcase. Half speed cut by Matt Colton at Alchemy Mastering. Includes 2 x 12″ poster inserts featuring exclusive artwork by KC Woolf Haxton and MP3 download code.

VARIOUS ARTISTS – B.I.P.P.P.: French Synth-Wave 1979-1985
An influential blueprint for the evolution of French electronic music, the majority of the performers featured on B.I.P.P.P.: French Synth-Wave 1979-1985 never made it beyond limited DIY pressings of 500 or 1,000 copies of 7” vinyl singles. Wired called them “lost synthwave gems” and Interview called it “A veritable treasure trove of post nuclear pop.” Includes the bonus track “Rainbow Man” by Busy P (sampling the track Comix’s “Touche Pas Mon Sexe”) as heard endlessly on TV behind the GooglePlay campaign! On limited edition double colored vinyl with poster.

MOTORHEAD – Motorhead
Vinyl reissue of 1977 release, Motörhead’s debut album. One of the greatest heavy metal records of all time by a band that has come to epitomize the genre, Motorhead sounds as relevant today as it seemed abrasive and genre-bending in its year of release. With this record, Lemmy and company reinvigorated a style of music that was quickly losing its bite as it was making its way into the pop charts. Faithful, updated rendering of original art printed at Stoughton. Japanese-style resealable poly bag. Both clear with black swirl vinyl and 200g black vinyl available, each limited to 1,500 copies.

THE BIRTHDAY PARTY – Prayers on Fire
Vinyl reissue of 1981 debut album from The Birthday Party, feature Nick Cave on lead vocals. Both white with red swirl vinyl and 200g black vinyl available, each limited to 1,500 copies.

THUNDERBITCH – Thunderbitch
A limited retail release of the side (pet) project from Alabama Shakes’s Brittany Howard. Indie record stores are the only retailer to have this record, limited to 500 copies.

MAJOR LAZER – Peace is the Mission
Limited vinyl LP pressing of 2015 release, the third album from Major Lazer, the collaborative project created and produced by Diplo (AKA Wesley Pentz). The album was preceded by the international hit single “Lean On” featuring DJ Snake and MØ. The single reached number one in Australia, Belgium, Denmark, Finland and the Netherlands and peaked within the Top 10 in an additional 14 countries, including the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany.

GOLDFINGER – Goldfinger
The first ever vinyl release of Goldfinger’s debut on blue vinyl, limited to 500 copies. The year 1996 was a breakthrough year for a new sound: the fusion of ska and punk. The Suicide Machines debuted, Less Than Jake made their major-label debut, but no one had more success with this new sound than Goldfinger on their self-titled debut. That could be because the band went even farther with their genre-bending, throwing metal and a touch of reggae into the mix. Or it could be because songs like the hit ”Here in Your Bedroom” and ”Mabel” are irresistibly catchy, creative, and, with such self-effacing lyrics as the maybe-size-does-matter line in ”Mabel,” hopelessly endearing. Mastered for vinyl and lacquers created by Stan Ricker. Pressed on limited edition 180-gram colored vinyl. Gatefold jacket and 11 x 22 insert.

DEXTER ROMWEBER, THE LONELY TEARDROPS and DEADLY LO-FI – Muchacho b/w Crash the Party 7”
A blistering classic slice of rock n roll 7” by a supergroup of sorts, The Lonely Teardrops (rock ’em-sock ’em’ two-piece from Virginia), Deadly Lo-Fi (wicked twisted voodoo mumbo jumbo from NC) and Dexter Romweber (rock-and-roll savior, Flat Duo Jets frontman)!

KENNY TUDRICK – Church Hill Downs
Having cut his musical teeth on the Detroit music scene with The GO, the Detroit Cobras and Rocket 455, Kenny now comes into his own unleashing his singular brand of alt-country-esque jams on his newest 7” (black and yellow swirl, limited to 300 copies).

NECROS – Live in 85
Recorded on 11/17/1985 at The Outhouse in Lawrence, Kansas, this full length album brings together 17 tracks recorded before the release of ‘Tangled Up,’ the second (and sadly, final) studio album by the band. 500 copies on grave-black vinyl.

ABOUT VINYL TUESDAY

With the move to a global Friday street date in July, Vinyl Tuesday was established to celebrate music in physical form and give record store customers access to early and exclusive releases. For artists, it’s a chance to showcase special releases on a special day and not get lost on the increasingly crowded Friday/weekend.

* Must be redeemed at time of purchase. Offer valid during regular business hours (10am-9pm) on Tuesdays only. The Record Exchange will not issue store credit for any unused portion of the Vinyl Tuesday used vinyl bonus.
