THE SMITHS – RANK LP
Digitally remastered edition of this live album from the legendary British quartet. Recorded live at the National Ballroom, London, in October of 1986, roughly six months before they disbanded altogether, these 14 songs capture The Smiths performing in full-on rock-star mode. Here the band’s performance is suitably epic, hit-packed, and engrossing. Morrissey is in fine form providing plenty of banter and personality. Similarly, Marr’s distinctive manic jangle demands much attention, especially on his solo creation “The Draize Train.”
THE SMITHS – LOUDER THAN BOMBS LP
Digitally remastered 180-gram vinyl edition of the classic 1987 collection from the legendary quartet. Compiling singles, B-sides, album tracks, and BBC sessions, Louder Than Bombs boasts a wealth of brilliant material including “Ask,” “You Just Haven’t Earned It Yet, Baby” and “Unlovable.” Louder Than Bombs is a necessary purchase for any Smiths fan.
THE SMITHS – THE WORLD WON’T LISTEN LP
Digitally remastered edition of this 1987 compilation from the legendary British quartet. The World Won’t Listen was a collection of singles, B-sides, album tracks, and BBC sessions and was assembled for the UK market at the same time that the U.S. collection, Louder Than Bombs, was compiled (which contains many of the tracks featured on The World Won’t Listen). Includes Smiths favorites such as ‘Panic’, ‘Ask’, ‘Shoplifters Of The World Unite’, ‘The Boy With The Thorn In His Side’, ‘There Is A Light That Never Goes Out’ and many more.
THE CARS – THE ELEKTRA YEARS 1978-1987 limited-edition 6LP colored vinyl box set
The Elektra Years 1978-1987 includes six studio albums, each one presented in a replica sleeve with original artwork. Ric Ocasek oversaw digital remastering for the set, while drummer David Robinson – who helped create The Cars’ iconic album covers through the years – served as art director. Each 180-gram LP is pressed on a different color vinyl. The extensive set retraces the band’s musical journey in the studio and includes: The Cars (1978), Candy-O (1979), Panorama (1980), Shake It Up (1981), Heartbeat City (1984) and Door To Door (1987). Among the 60 tracks are the band’s biggest hits – “My Best Friend’s Girl,” “Good Times Roll,” “You Are The Girl,” and “Drive.”
THE KILLS’ ‘ASH & ICE’ OUT NOW’; ENTER TO WIN THE VINYL!
The Kills released their new album Ash and Ice on June 3, and The Record Exchange has it on CD, vinyl and limited-edition indie-store-only blue/red swirl vinyl!
Over their almost decade-and-a-half career, The Kills have released four records. Each one a restless, reckless enigmatic art statement that bristled with tension, anxiety, sex, unstudied cool and winking ennui, yet not one of them sounded like the previous one. Ash & Ice is the follow up to 2011’s critically lauded Blood Pressures and was five years in the making in part due to Jamie Hince’s five hand surgeries, which resulted in him having to re-learn how to play guitar with a permanently damaged finger.
It was during Hince’s recuperation from surgery that he first started sketching out what would become the songs for the album. To shake up the writing process, Hince booked a solo trip on the infamous Trans-Siberian Express for inspiration while Alison Mosshart, now residing in Nashville, wrote some of the most affecting, poetically candid lyrics that she ever has, painting word pictures that mine the dangerous terrain between romantic obsession, prophecy and tough love. Where previous albums had an air of detachment and emotional austerity, underpinned by an uneasy self-awareness and unexpressed anger, the 13 songs on Ash & Ice are more understated, less tempestuous and more affecting because of that, exposing the kind of push-pull you feel when you find yourself in a complicated but all-consuming relationship. Ash & Ice is The Kills at their emotionally charged, arresting best. Prepare to be slayed.
