Audra Connolly will perform a special album release party preview in-store at 6 p.m. First Thursday, Oct. 2, at The Record Exchange (1105 W. Idaho St., Downtown Boise). Connolly is holding a release party on Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Sapphire Room (inside Riverside Hotel), 2900 W. Chinden Blvd., Boise. We’ll be serving free Payette Brewing Co. beer for guests 21 and older with I.D. As always, this Record Exchange in-store event is free and all ages!
Connolly’s album “Slowly” will be available for purchase at the in-store! It’s also First Thursday at The Record Exchange, and that means buy-2-get-1-free savings all over the store!
Studying, teaching and, above all, writing and performing music took Audra Connolly all around the United States and then beyond to South Korea. Her life as an expat, an outsider looking in, lit the spark for her latest album “Slowly,” released in Korea in January 2014 and to be released internationally on Sept. 23.
Working as an English teacher, “Slowly” grew out of Audra’s explorations and performances in the independent music scene in Seoul, where fans and collaborators embraced her sound. And Korea itself is a clear secondary sound to Audra’s voice on “Slowly.” The Korean language, the sound of her students singing a Korean folk song, and whirring cicadas enliven the album. “Slowly” was written, produced and recorded entirely in the Seoul area, a challenging, but rewarding experience. Audra is grateful to the musicians in the local Seoul scene for lending their motivation and support while recording “Slowly.”
Audra’s musical roots began in Nampa, Idaho. There she grew up studying classical music before finding her passion in songwriting, heavily influenced by folk icons Joni Mitchell and Ani DiFranco, among others. After earning a degree in Music Performance from Boise State University, Audra focused on songwriting. In 2009, Audra completed “Dear Friend,” her first album, on Hole Heart Records, her independent recording label.
Audra has toured the western United States promoting “Dear Friend” and has plans to continue to tour in her home country this year. However, she is by no means finished as a world traveler.
