ABOUT INNOCENT MAN AND ‘SLOW NIGHTS’

Web-IM_SlowNights_FINAL“Honest Music, Played by Honest Folks for Real People”

Innocent Man‘s new album “Slow Nights” celebrates the unique regional diversity of the Northwest. Drawing from an array of genres, the band navigates from bluegrass and pop to the blues and progressive rock while staying true to the group’s signature sound. The resulting 11-track album takes the listener on a journey from the high desert to Interstate 84 and most places in between. With a nod to their roots, Innocent Man’s newest album gives an authentic look at the Northwest through the lens of love, self-discovery and adventure.

Innocent Man plays honest rock ‘n’ roll, fostered with Americana, while pursuing the unending development of the band’s musical abilities. By using deep heartfelt lyrics that reflect shared life experiences, tasteful guitar, premier fiddle, driving rhythms and graceful melodies, Innocent Man comes through as a breath of fresh air that dabbles with acoustic echoes of the past. With a hunger to constantly create great compositions, the members of Innocent Man continue to push the conceptual limitations of music.

With an original sound that is hard to define, Innocent Man brings elements of genuine Americana or outlaw country, reminiscent of acts like Wilco, The Wood Brothers, The Clumsy Lovers and Johnny Cash, along with glimmers of classic rock such as Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, ZZ Top and The Band, combined with jamband grooves resembling those of Phish, The Grateful Dead and Assembly Of Dust.

Innocent Man’s first album, “Home Grown” was released Feb. 9, 2013. The album release included a notable sold-out party at Visual Arts Collective. The album is a brilliant assortment of new and seasoned, original cross-genre songs. Fans that have followed the band for years will delight in the new life the band has breathed into many of its familiar songs as they continue to progress their sound and push their musical boundaries.

This Boise based six-piece was cultivated by childhood friends sharing their love of music. Scott Sprague, Dan Burns and Kristen Burns (no relation) grew up in McCall and graduated from the same small high school. Likewise, Tim Callender and Conlyn McCain grew up in the small town of Payette.

While in college, the core members of the band became friends and started to jam. Scott, Dan, Tim, Conlyn and Josh Sears played together for more than a decade in various lineups and great bands around Idaho’s Treasure Valley such as Red House, Classic Ashley, the3hundred and Enormous G. In 2008, the guys switched up instruments and song arrangements and founded a new band.

Each member of the band has their own specific tastes in music, which helps make for a unique and special sound that touches many different genres all within a single song. This special sound reverberates through all ages and creates a common connection that sparks new friendships everywhere it’s heard.

Band Members:

Dan Burns – Guitar/Vocals

Josh Sears – Drums

Conlyn McCain – Bass Guitar/Vocals

Scott Sprague – Guitar/Vocals

ABOUT BELA FLECK AND ABIGAIL WASHBURN

418456096126Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn present their eponymous debut album as a duo after many years of prominence as banjo players and composers in their own eclectic avenues. Béla Fleck and Abigail Washburn is a front porch banjo and vocal album of new music, Appalachian murder ballads, gospel, chamber and blues; the culmination of a yearlong tour as a duo in 2013 following the birth of their son, Juno.

Béla, an icon and innovator of jazz, classical and world, with more multi-category GRAMMY wins than any other artist (15 total), and Abigail, a formidable talent with triumphs in songwriting, theater, performance and even Chinese diplomacy by way of banjo, turn out to be quite a fortuitous pairing with a deep, distinct and satisfying outcome. The culmination is an album like no other. The record reveals their astounding chemistry as collaborators, as the two seamlessly stitch together singular banjo sounds (through an assortment of seven banjos spanning the recording) in service to the stories that their songs tell, with no studio gimmickry needed.

According to Béla, “finding a way to make every song have its own unique stamp, yet the whole project having a big cohesive sound with only two people” was at the core of their joint vision. Demonstrating seemingly unlimited rhythmic, tonal and melodic capabilities, Fleck and Washburn confirm the banjo’s versatility as the perfect backdrop to the rich lyrical component that Fleck and Washburn offer. “Sometimes when you add other instruments, you take away from the banjo’s being able to show all its colors, which are actually quite beautiful.” Thanks to this album, the musicians’ palette has never been more vivid or pure.

TheWellRoundedClarkeandtheHimselfsABOUT CLARKE AND THE HIMSELFS

Clarke and the Himselfs is the sonically extended portion of Clarke Aleksandr Howell. What originally began with multi-track records transmographied into the full band it is today, with Howell using the drums, guitar, his voice and no loops, creating catchy, dark, powerful sounds that are supported ultimately by the gravity of the songs themselves.

The Himselfs are regularly on the road and have extensively toured the South, Midwest and East Coast. Clarke and the Himselfs opened for Built to Spill on two different month-long North American tours. He has played with the likes of Colleen Green, No Bunny, Paleo, Sad Horse, La Luz, Naomi Punk and many more.

Their latest release, The Well-Rounded Clarke and the Himselfs, is the cumulative LP debut from Clarke and the Himselfs. Recorded in Portland, Oregon, on half-inch tape at Fluff and Gravy in early spring of 2014. Engineered and mixed by David Strackany (Paleo). Mastered by Mell Dettmer (Sunn O))), Boris, Earth) Featuring brand new cuts as well as re-done classics, all recorded, mixed and mastered to audiophile quality.

“Songs like ‘Asteroid’ and ‘Toxic World’ are infectious, fuzzed-out earworms that are sure to get trapped in your head for days.” – Chipp Terwilliger/Portland Mercury

“..Clarke Howell’s not simply working a stripped aesthetic, he’s a single player going for a full sound. Unlike most one-man bands who play drums with just their feet, one of his hands handles both guitar and stick on a practically full drum kit. Drape all that with the kind of gorgeously groaning guitar effects that Pink Mountaintops used to specialize in and a weird trilling vocal effect and you’ve got an impressively lush solo act. Perhaps most importantly though, the actual quality of his songs proves he’s more than just some novelty act.” – Bao Le-Huu/Orlando Weekly

ABOUT THE IDAHO HO HO SERIES

Moxie Java, in collaboration with the Idaho Foodbank, is pleased to announce the release of the sixth-anniversary album in its annual Idaho Ho Ho: A Celebration of the Holidays with Idaho Artists series. Over the past six years, over 100 recording artists with Idaho ties have participated in the Idaho Ho Ho recordings, with local musician Steve Fulton serving as producer throughout the series. The album has topped the best-seller list at The Record Exchange each of the last five years.

As in the past, the album serves up a uniquely Idahoan take on Christmas music, showcases established and upcoming local musicians, covers a variety of musical genres, and includes both original holiday songs and unique covers of holiday favorites. The 2015 album also celebrates Idaho’s visual arts community. This year’s cover art is by local graffiti artist Hawk Sahlein (Elmer One) of Boise’s Sector Seventeen, whose art is on display in multiple Idaho public spaces, including representation in downtown Boise’s famous Freak Alley Gallery. The ‘Escher-esque’ mural featured on the album cover was painted on Moxie Java’s headquarters building in Garden City and can be viewed throughout the holiday season.

Since 2010, the Idaho Ho Ho program has generated funds that have enabled the Idaho Foodbank to provide nearly 125,000 meals to Idahoans in need throughout the state. “For six years, Moxie Java has been synonymous with the holidays and the efforts to solve hunger in our communities,” said Karen Vauk, President and CEO of the Idaho Foodbank. “Buying this album will no doubt bring holiday cheer to not only those who buy it, but also the thousands in need in our state.”

Ken Stokes, president of Moxie Java, commented, “Moxie Java has always been committed to celebrating what is unique in the Idaho experience, and there are few initiatives that are as near and dear to us as a company as our long-time collaboration with Idaho musicians and the Idaho Foodbank. We at Moxie Java once again would like to thank the many musicians, artists, individuals and businesses who generously donated their time and talents to this very worthy cause, and, of course, we offer our sincere gratitude to the residents of Idaho for their continued and enthusiastic support of this program and the Idaho Foodbank.”
