WILL YOU FIND THE GOLDEN TICKET IN YOUR COPY OF THE NATIONAL’S GREAT NEW ALBUM ‘HIGH VIOLET’? (OUT MAY 11)

In terms of what we offer music junkies, The Record Exchange is Idaho’s equivalent of Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory. And while you may never know what you’re gonna find when you enter our doors, one thing is for sure — your visit won’t go all creepshow on you.

On Tuesday, May 11, The Record Exchange is starting a Wonka-themed promotion in conjunction with the highly-anticipated release of The National‘s excellent new album High Violet.

One lucky customer who purchases the indie-store exclusive version of High Violet on CD (foil stamping and folded poster) or vinyl (colored vinyl, foil stamping and download card) will find a Golden Ticket inside redeemable for a $50 Record Exchange gift card.

Additionally, we will be inserting Golden Tickets into random used CDs and DVDs that can be redeemed for $5 and $20 Record Exchange gift cards. There’s no telling where you’ll find a Golden Ticket, but we’re distributing them across all music and DVD genres so happy hunting!

Now, back to the new National album, which is currently being streamed in its entirety by NPR. High Violet is a nervy, melodic, explosive and beautiful set of songs that find the band at the height of their collaborative powers. The music is wide-ranging in its moods, by turns intimate and rough, expansive and spare, full of stark angles and atmosphere.

Matt Berninger’s singing—wild, half-broken, sly—evokes a feeling of being haunted, by love, by paranoia, by something just out of reach. High Violet may be The National’s most thematically twisted record to date, but it somehow also manages to be their most infectious and immediate. NEW DVD/BLU-RAY: CHICKENFOOT LIVE

Shot in HD with 16 cameras over three sold-out shows, Get Your Buzz On offers the viewer a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see four rock ‘n’ roll legends share the stage and blow the fans away with their combined inordinate talents to one collective whole as Chickenfoot.

The band, formed in 2008, consists of Sammy Hagar (Van Halen and Montrose), Michael Anthony (Van Halen), Chad Smith (The Red Hot Chilli Peppers) and guitar hero Joe Satriani. Shot the summer of 2009, the shows are captured in crystal clear high definition by award-winning director Daniel E. Catullo III (Rush, Creed, Godsmack, Smashing Pumpkins) and mixed in DTS 5.1 Surround Sound by Mike Fraser.

The video includes one full show shot at the Dodge Theater in Phoenix and segments from shows at the Tabernacle in Atlanta and The Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland. The bonus features are robust and include never-before-seen backstage footage, interviews with the band, extra performance footage, a photo gallery and not to be missed funny segments featuring surprise special guests Adam Corolla, Bob Weir and Christopher Guest as “Nigel Tufnel” from the hit movie Spinal Tap.

NEW DVD/BLU-RAY: ‘IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARNASSUS,’ ‘OUT OF AFRICA’ BLU-RAY,’ IT’S COMPLICATED,’ MORE

Blessed with the extraordinary gift of guiding the imaginations of others, Doctor Parnassus (Christopher Plummer) is cursed with a dark secret. An inveterate gambler, thousands of years ago he made a bet with the devil, Mr. Nick (Tom Waits), in which he won immortality. Centuries later, on meeting his one true love, Dr. Parnassus made another deal with the devil, trading his immortality for youth, on condition that when his daughter reached her 16th birthday, she would become the property of Mr Nick.

Valentina (Lily Cole) is now rapidly approaching this “coming of age” milestone and Dr. Parnassus is desperate to protect her from her impending fate. Mr. Nick arrives to collect but, always keen to make a bet, renegotiates the wager. Now the winner of Valentina will be determined by whoever seduces the first five souls.

Enlisting a series of wild, comical and compelling characters in his journey, Dr. Parnassus promises his daughter’s hand in marriage to the man that helps him win. In this captivating, explosive and wonderfully imaginative race against time, Dr. Parnassus must fight to save his daughter in a never-ending landscape of surreal obstacles – and undo the mistakes of his past once and for all! Also starring Heath Ledger, Andrew Garfield, Verne Troyer, Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law.
