From midnight to midnight on May 1, BBP’s Jimmy Hallyburton and Cass Jones will be attempting to donate 24 Bikes to 24 Kids in 24 Hours. The Record Exchange is excited to help power their journey by holding a dream bicycle at our store. Each time BBP reaches a donation milestone, in increments of 25, Jimmy and Cass will hit the road and deliver another bike, along with a new helmet and safety instructions, to the next child’s doorstep. We’re powering their journey and you can too by prescheduling your $10 or more donations now, or donating on May 1!

Donations received during the 2014 Idaho Gives event will be used to jumpstart Boise Bicycle Project’s brand new Bicycle Mechanic Apprenticeship Program (B-MAP).

B-MAP will provide a well-rounded education to at-risk teens in the Treasure Valley; teaching them the essential skills needed to become an entry level bicycle mechanic along with other vocational proficiencies.

This 8-week course is intended for youth ages 14-18 and will teach vital mechanic skills like wheel truing, changing flats, chain, hub, brake, derailleur and headset adjustments and brand new (out-of-the-box) bike builds. B-MAP students will also have assistance creating a resume, applying for a job and will participate in mock interviews. Graduates will receive a certificate of completion.

ABOUT BOISE BICYCLE PROJECT

In October of 2007, two hotshot firefighters put their axes and chainsaws down and began repairing and donating used bikes to under privileged kids. They dreamed of creating a cooperative workspace that made bicycle education and quality-recycled bicycles available to the entire community.

Six years later, BBP has donated over 8,000 bicycles to the Treasure Valley, while teaching countless members of the community about bicycle repair and safety. BBP has grown into a fully functional bicycle cooperative with services to offer every demographic. It has truly been a dream come true, and the impact on Boise can be seen with recycled bicycles gracing the streets everywhere you look.

At Boise Bicycle Project we rebuild bikes to build better lives. Please join the ride and give today.
