ROCK TO READ RETURNS OCTOBER 21!

Go Listen Boise and Rediscovered Bookshop are proud to announce the return of Rock to Read, a fundraising evening of music and spoken word, at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at the Linen Building, 1402 W. Grove St. in Downtown Boise’s Linen District. Admission is $10 adults, $5 12 and younger or $20 per family. All ages, non-alcoholic beverages, Pie Hole pizza. Plenty of free, off-street parking is available at the Linen Building.

The musical and literary communities of Boise will once again join forces to raise funds for the Boise Public School District libraries. Last year’s Rock to Read (facebook.com/RockToRead.Boise) raised enough money to buy each school in the district a set of brand new, award-winning books. Yeah, you read that right — each school in the Boise Public School District, elementary, high and charter schools. (This year, once again, the state of Idaho made drastic cuts to school funding. Supplies, field trips, administrative personnel and libraries have all suffered.)

This year, we aim to repeat our success. This means raising enough money to provide approximately 50 schools with a set of books chosen from the winners of the Children’s Literature Awards (ala.org). It basically works out to around $60 per school. Achievable. (We proved it, and boy did we have fun in the process!)

Tim Johnstone of 94.9 FM The River Morning Show will once again serve as Master of Ceremonies. Local art and goodies from local businesses will feature in the silent auction, pizza from Pie Hole will be available and a children’s writing contest organized by Rediscovered Bookshop will be just a few things you can look forward to, as well as the main attraction — live music and spoken word provided by Boise’s most creative and innovative (and some of the youngest!) performers:
